Peugeot 404

4 door saloon 4/5 passengers

The Peugeot 404 was the standard transport of respectable French families for a decade from the early ‘sixties. You would see these cars covering the kilometres on the Routes Nationales or in smart French suburbs and city centres. The 404 remains a very solid and tough vehicle, not for nothing was it a winner of East African Safari Rally and hard-working examples can be seen right around sub-Saharan Africa to this day. Today, am I alone in remembering them as rather cool gangster transport in Jean-Luc Godard movies from the late ‘60’s?

Our 404 De-Luxe has had one family ownership from new and has covered remarkably few kilometres in its sheltered life locally. We have re-commissioned it after long storage so that 4 people can have stylish period transport whilst holidaying here with space in the boot for cases of wine or beach equipment for days out. The car is economical with its 1.6 litre petrol engine but able to keep up with modern traffic on a run. It has disc brakes and very comfortable suspension. There is a column gearchange controlling a 4 speed manual gearbox. These days not many examples are seen running so it attracts affectionate interest from fans of that generation.
